Regional accounts for 2024, published on Monday by the High Commission for Planning (HCP), show that five of Morocco's 12 regions accounted for nearly three-quarters (74.4%) of the country's household final consumption expenditure (HFCE).
The Casablanca-Settat region alone represented 25.3% of national household spending, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (14.8%), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (11.6%), Fez-Meknes (11.4%) and Marrakech-Safi (11.3%), according to the HCP's regional accounts. National household final consumption expenditure reached 944.1 billion dirhams in 2024.
The remaining seven regions together accounted for 25.6% of total household spending, with shares ranging from 0.8% in Dakhla-Oued Eddahab to 7.2% in Souss-Massa.
The HCP also noted that regional disparities in household consumption widened in 2024. The average absolute gap between regional household spending and the national regional average increased to 51.5 billion dirhams, up from 48.5 billion dirhams in 2023, reflecting a growing concentration of consumer spending in the country's most economically dynamic regions.
On a per capita basis, national household final consumption expenditure averaged 25,664 dirhams in 2024. Six regions exceeded that level: Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (34,515 dirhams), Casablanca-Settat (31,173 dirhams), Oriental (27,805 dirhams), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (27,250 dirhams), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (27,210 dirhams) and Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (25,696 dirhams).
