Technology-facilitated gender-based violence, or TFGBV, is reaching alarming proportions. What was supposed to be a tool for empowerment and progress for women and girls too often turns into an instrument of domination and violence, with serious repercussions on their mental and physical health, as well as their fundamental rights.

It is in this context that the campaign «Out of Control» was launched by the Democratic Association of Moroccan Women (ADFM), Media and Cultures, Kif Mama Kif Baba, and Jat w Jabt – Free Generation. As part of the 16 days of activism against violence against women, this initiative denounces the malicious use of technology and calls for concrete actions to protect women and girls, according to the statement received by Yabiladi.

According to a study by the High Commission for Planning (HCP), 19% of violence against women in Morocco is digital, a figure that reaches 34% among young women aged 15 to 19. This violence takes various forms, ranging from online harassment to doxxing, and often results in physical or psychological assaults in real life.

Among the objectives are raising public awareness, supporting victims by providing them with appropriate resources, collaborating with local and international actors to deepen research on the subject, and advocating for effective prevention measures.

«It is urgent to develop policies that protect the privacy and security of women and girls in the digital age», emphasizes Amina Lotfi, a member of the ADFM. «We must not allow these tools of progress to become weapons of oppression and domination», states Ghizlane Mamouni, president of the association Kif Mama Kif Baba.

Through this campaign, the associations call for collective mobilization to make technologies tools of empowerment rather than oppression.
