A court in Marrakech has sentenced Moroccan actress and singer Karima Ghaith to two months in prison. She was also fined 2,000 dirhams and ordered to pay court costs and 5,000 dirhams in compensation to the civil party, following charges of «insulting a public official while performing their duties».

The case dates back to last April, when the artist appeared before the public prosecutor at the primary court in Marrakech, on suspicion of being involved in insulting a police officer at the Marrakech airport. She was released on bail of 5,000 dirhams.

The issuance of this verdict coincided with Karima Ghaith's participation in the Marrakech International Film Festival, where she sparked widespread controversy on social media during her appearance on the red carpet, due to her dress, which some considered indecent.
