Photos of a 1950s Hanukkah gathering in Morocco are part of a virtual museum created by the Paris-based Jewish education organization Universal Israelite Alliance.
The virtual museum, which also includes photos of a schoolyard in Iran, aims to show how Jewish communities lived decades ago in North Africa, the Balkans, Asia, and the Mediterranean, wrote the Times of Israel on Thursday.
«The museum is a national treasure of culture and tradition and a living bridge between generations», said curator and Alliance vice president Chani Memram. «Visiting the museum takes us on a journey of getting to know the people and their stories», he added.
The online museum features photos, paperwork, and other items from French-language Jewish schools throughout the Mediterranean that were collected, scanned, and placed for interactive tours.
It also includes videos, portraits, and personal accounts of Jews born and raised in the aforementioned locations, sharing the Jewish traditions and histories from these communities.
