The Jerusalem Post highlights Israel's involvement in the Paraguayan Parliament's adoption of a resolution recognizing Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara. This decision comes after discussions led by Amir Ohana, President of the Israeli Knesset, during recent meetings with Paraguayan officials, including President Santiago Peña and Raúl Latorre, President of the Chamber of Deputies.
A fervent supporter of Israeli-Moroccan relations, Amir Ohana, the son of Moroccan immigrants, has been one of the main architects of this rapprochement. His historic visit to Morocco in 2023 marked a turning point, with the official announcement of Israel's recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. This symbolic gesture was accompanied by the updating of the official map in his office, reflecting this decision.
In exchanges with the Paraguayan authorities, Ohana emphasized the strategic importance of Western Sahara for Morocco and encouraged Paraguay to adopt a position similar to that of Israel. The result was not long in coming: Resolution 796, introduced by Raúl Latorre, supports Moroccan sovereignty while urging the Paraguayan government to defend this position in international forums.
