The Tangier community has announced that the rehabilitation of the Plaza de Toros, the bullring of Tangier, is nearing completion, with progress now at 95 percent.

In a recent statement, the Tangier Community described the Plaza de Toros rehabilitation as «an ambitious project aimed at restoring one of the city's most significant historical landmarks and transforming it into a vibrant hub for cultural, artistic, and economic activities.»

Highlighting the importance placed on cultural development, the community council has been actively involved in the project, contributing 40 million dirhams. This contribution has brought the total project cost to 70 million dirhams, underscoring the council's commitment to supporting heritage projects with developmental significance.

The bullring, affectionately known to locals as «Plaza de Toros», stands as a testament to Tangier's rich history, originally constructed in 1950 to host the era's renowned bullfighting events.

Although bullfighting ceased in 1970, the arena has remained an integral part of the city's collective memory and heritage.

The ongoing project aims to transform the historic arena into a contemporary multifunctional space, accommodating up to 7,000 people. Plans include the addition of exhibition halls, restaurants, cultural shops, and outdoor exhibition areas, complemented by modern amenities such as parking garages and expansive plazas.
