The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a rescheduling of the 8th edition of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024. Initially set for February 2025, the tournament will now take place in August 2025 across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. This decision was made to ensure that the infrastructures meet international standards.

CAF's statement emphasized the commitment of the host countries to upgrade their stadiums, training grounds, accommodations, and other essential facilities. Despite these efforts, CAF experts concluded that more time is needed to guarantee the event's success.

«The infrastructures and facilities must reach the required level to successfully host the African Nations Championship,» the statement noted.

While this move underscores CAF's dedication to maintaining high organizational standards, it disrupts the plans of participating teams, particularly Senegal, the reigning champion. The delay may impact team compositions, as rosters could evolve by August. Nevertheless, the competition draw is still set for this Wednesday, January 15, in Nairobi. The exact new dates for the championship will be announced in due course.
