Morocco maintains Global Military ranking: A 2025 perspective

Morocco has maintained its 59th position in the 2025 Global Firepower Index (GFI), moving up two places from its 61st ranking in 2023. The country achieved a Power Index score of 1.1273, reflecting its military capabilities among 145 nations evaluated.

According to Global Firepower's annual report, the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) maintain a force of 200,000 active military personnel, supported by 150,000 reservists and 50,000 paramilitary members. The military's ground forces operate 903 tanks, 7,877 armored vehicles, and 396 self-propelled artillery systems. The air force commands 260 aircraft, including 83 fighter jets, while the navy operates six frigates and 105 patrol vessels.

In regional comparisons, Morocco ranks sixth in the Arab world, seventh in Africa, and second in the Maghreb region. Algeria maintains a higher position at 26th globally, while Egypt leads the African continent at 19th worldwide. Other notable African military powers include South Africa (40th), Nigeria (31st), and Ethiopia (52nd).

Morocco's defense budget has increased to 133 billion dirhams for 2025, up from 124 billion in 2024. This budget allocation aims to support equipment acquisition, defense industry development, and military personnel salary improvements.

The Global Firepower Index evaluates countries based on over 60 factors, including land, air, and naval capabilities, along with financial resources, logistics, and defense infrastructure. The United States maintains the top position globally, followed by Russia and China.
