A team of specialists at Moulay Youssef Hospital Center in Rabat successfully performed Morocco’s first surgical procedure to treat tricuspid valve insufficiency on Tuesday.
The complex five-hour operation was led by Professor Mohamed Laaroussi, head of the cardiac surgery department at Ibn Sina University Hospital, in collaboration with a medical and nursing team from Moulay Youssef Hospital Center, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection stated in a press release.
The surgery was performed on a 63-year-old patient and required a high level of precision due to its complexity, the ministry added.
This groundbreaking procedure marks a significant advancement in Morocco’s cardiac and vascular surgery field. Such operations are typically conducted in specialized university hospital centers, making this achievement particularly noteworthy.
The success of this operation highlights the expertise of Moroccan medical professionals, who continue to handle complex cases while maintaining the highest quality standards, the ministry emphasized.
Additionally, this milestone reinforces Moulay Youssef Hospital Center’s position as a leading medical institution in Morocco and a center of excellence in cardiology and cardiovascular surgery.
The ministry also noted that this achievement reflects the ongoing progress in Morocco’s public healthcare sector, demonstrating its ability to provide high-quality medical care that meets citizens' needs.
