Polisario Front tries to downplay one of its «ministers» calling for terrorist acts

Recent statements by a so-called «minister» of the Polisario, calling for terrorist acts against tourists and investors in the Sahara, come at a critical moment for the Front. In response to the controversy, the separatist movement's representation in Spain denied the threats allegedly made by Mustapha Sidi Ali El Bachir, who is in charge of the «occupied territories and the Sahrawi diaspora».

The representation warned against the circulation of «alleged statements attributed to a minister of the SADR», asserting that the information shared by certain Moroccan media outlets «harms the image and reputation of the Polisario Front, the sole legitimate representative of the people of Western Sahara».

In its statement, reviewed by Yabiladi, the Polisario reaffirmed that «Moroccan claims over Western Sahara are contrary to international law».

During an interview conducted from the Tindouf camps by Moroccan journalist Mohamed Radi Ellili, known for his previous support of the Polisario, Mustapha Sidi Ali El Bachir made no effort to soften his message. «We demand that they leave our lands. They should not pretend to be innocent or civilians», he said.

«This message must reach investors and tourists. We are in a state of war, and our people are suffering», he added. El Bachir also voiced support for the Houthis in Yemen, who have been targeted by the Trump administration in recent weeks.

On March 3, the United States designated the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization.
