Neil El Aynaoui made a memorable debut for AS Roma on Saturday, stepping onto the pitch for the first time in a match against Bologna that ended 1-0. The atmosphere at the Stadio Olimpico left him in awe. «My teammates had told me what to expect, but the reality surpassed my expectations», he said after the game.

When asked about his international ambitions, the 24-year-old midfielder was clear: his heart is set on representing Morocco. «I've been in touch with the coach, who encouraged me to keep pushing. If Morocco calls, I'll be thrilled», he affirmed, a significant statement from the former Lens player.

His comments echo recent reports in the media suggesting the French-Moroccan is leaning toward the Atlas Lions, having already represented Morocco at the under-23 level. Foot Mercato even claimed the young midfielder «will indeed be on Walid Regragui's list in a week». Last week, it was reported that El Aynaoui and the national coach had «exchanged views recently», with the player «reiterating his desire to play for Morocco».

Anticipation is now building for national coach Walid Regragui’s upcoming press conference, scheduled for Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, where he will unveil the squad for the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
