Morocco heatwave alert as temperatures soar to 47C

A heatwave and hot weather are expected from Monday to Thursday in several Moroccan provinces, the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) stated in an orange-level weather alert bulletin.

Accordingly, a heatwave with temperatures ranging between 44 and 47°C is expected from Monday to Wednesday in the provinces of Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, and Zagora. Over the same period, temperatures between 35 and 40°C are forecast in the provinces of Essaouira, Driouch, Nador, and Berkane.

The same weather pattern is expected from Tuesday to Thursday, with temperatures ranging from 40 to 44°C in the provinces of Sidi Kacem, Khouribga, Settat, El Kalaa des Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Jerada, Taourirt, Khemisset, Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Khenifra, Boulemane, Guercif, Oujda-Angad, Taounate, Taza, Ouezzane, Taroudant, and Tinghir.

In addition, hot weather with temperatures ranging between 40 and 44°C is forecast for Monday in the provinces of Taza, Taroudant, Tinghir, Khouribga, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, El Kalaa des Sraghna, Jerada, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, Beni Mellal, Boulemane, and Guercif.
