Gadem launches series to analyze racist messages during AFCON 2025

For GADEM, this date offers an opportunity to «grasp how racial prejudice and xenophobia manifest online, and the impact they have on the societies in which they take root». Through seven online publications, the series aims to break down recurring narratives, explain their context and underlying logic, and examine them in light of Moroccan law.

The NGO also noted that «while some Moroccans were affected by these xenophobic messages and racial prejudices, a much larger share did not identify with them». «Only a minority actively contributed to spreading these narratives and fueling negative sentiment», GADEM added.

The association further recalled that «at the same time, several public calls for respect and cohesion highlighted the spirit of brotherhood that marked the competition». The series will conclude with a collective discussion in the form of a public roundtable as part of the L’Mchaoura meetings.
