Moroccan Health Minister Amine Tehraoui launched discussions on Wednesday with the World Bank Group and the Gates Foundation to develop a roadmap aimed at positioning Morocco as a regional pharmaceutical and logistics hub.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, focused on the first strategic orientations and priority areas of cooperation under AIM2030, the World Bank Group’s African initiative for access to medicines and the development of medical manufacturing by 2030, according to a press release.
The initiative seeks to establish Morocco as a continental platform for pharmaceutical production, health-product logistics, regional distribution, and the strengthening of medical supply chains across Africa, in line with the Kingdom’s National Health Pact priorities.
Participants highlighted Morocco’s potential to play a major regional role thanks to reforms carried out under King Mohammed VI, the country’s strategic geographic position, the quality of its industrial and logistics infrastructure, and the evolution of its pharmaceutical regulatory framework.
The parties also agreed to continue technical and institutional consultations to define future partnership and cooperation mechanisms around the project.
The 79th World Health Assembly is being held in Geneva from May 18 to 23, 2026, amid growing international calls to strengthen health-system resilience, secure medical supply chains, and improve equitable access to medicines and healthcare products.
