The president of the Almería Port Authority, Rosario Soto, the Consul General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Almería, Soumia El Fatahi, and a representative from the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity convened for a strategic meeting to coordinate efforts for ensuring traveler well-being during Operation Marhaba 2026.
This operation is one of the largest seasonal transit movements in Europe, with the Port of Almería serving as a critical maritime link between Morocco and Europe. It ranks second only to the Port of Algeciras regarding passenger traffic.
During the meeting, Rosario Soto highlighted significant enhancements made in preparation for Operation Marhaba 2026, involving increased human resources, upgraded infrastructure, and improved services and port access routes, totaling €1.6 million. These investments aim to enhance service quality and expedite boarding, especially with the addition of the Moroccan shipping company «Africa Morocco Link (AML)» to the existing routes to Nador. This brings the total number of companies connecting Almería and Morocco to four.
The Consul General, Soumia El Fatahi, emphasized the exceptional efforts by the consulate to ensure a seamless and secure crossing for the hundreds of thousands of Moroccans returning home for summer holidays. Since June 15, a consular office at the port has been actively providing consular, administrative, and social assistance. It also coordinates with Spanish authorities to facilitate smooth boarding operations.
The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity confirmed its facilities at the Port of Almería are operational, overseeing humanitarian and social support during the operation. The foundation manages medical teams, accompaniment services, and emergency interventions at the port.
The meeting underscored strong coordination among all parties, prioritizing travelers’ safety and comfort.
