Moroccan police have seized 700 kilograms of cannabis resin concealed in plastic packages shaped like watermelons, an unusual smuggling method uncovered during an operation targeting an international drug-trafficking network in the Tangier region.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of Sunday, June 21, by the Tangier judicial police, acting on intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST). Four suspects were arrested in the Gueznaya area, on the outskirts of Tangier, in coordination with the Royal Gendarmerie.

According to a security source, the suspects were intercepted while travelling in three vehicles. A search of the home of one of them led to the discovery of the shipment of cannabis resin.

Database checks showed that the four suspects, aged between 32 and 39, all have previous convictions related to violent crimes and drug trafficking.

The suspects have been placed in police custody pending an investigation supervised by the competent public prosecutor's office. The inquiry aims to identify the network's national and international links.
