German cable manufacturer LEONI Cable Solutions has chosen Morocco for its first industrial facility in Africa, launching a MAD 630 million (€60 million) investment project in the Atlantic Free Zone of Kenitra.

The company laid the foundation stone for the new plant on Tuesday. Built on a 48,000-square-meter site, the facility will include 18,000 square meters of industrial and office space, as well as a 9,000-square-meter land reserve to support future expansion.

The factory will produce single-core and multi-core automotive cables, along with data transmission cables for next-generation vehicles destined for major global automotive suppliers.

Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour said the project aligns with Morocco’s ambition to strengthen high-value-added technological industries and support the transition toward future mobility solutions. He described LEONI’s decision to establish its first African facility in Morocco as a strong vote of confidence in the kingdom’s industrial platform and competitiveness.

The highly automated plant will feature a dedicated laboratory for quality control of materials and finished products to meet international automotive standards. Its development will be supported by a structured knowledge-transfer program led by LEONI teams in Turkey and Germany, aimed at equipping Moroccan staff with advanced industrial expertise and technologies.

According to Hicham Hannioui, president of LEONI Cable Solutions, the investment marks an important step in the company’s international expansion and will help strengthen local skills while supporting Morocco’s growing automotive industry.

The facility will also incorporate sustainability measures, including photovoltaic systems and the use of largely mineral-based and recyclable materials.

LEONI Cable Solutions, which employs around 3,300 people across nine countries, specializes in cables, wiring systems and data transmission solutions for the automotive sector, including electric mobility, autonomous driving and advanced charging infrastructure.
