The European Commission, an institution of the European Union, responsible for proposing legislation, implementing decisions, upholding the EU treaties and managing the day-to-day business of the EU, has launched a public consultation to seek views on the existing EU legislation on legal migration, said the organization in a statement on Monday.

The Commission is currently evaluating existing EU legislation on legal migration. In this process, it will identify possible gaps and inconsistencies in current legislation, evaluate its contribution to effective management of migration flows, and analyze possible ways to simplify the current European framework.

As part of this procedure, a public consultation has been launched and will be open until mid-September 2017. The public consultation website and the questionnaire are available in all EU languages.

The public consultation is targeting the widest possible audience, both inside and outside the EU, as it is important to obtain views from both EU and non-EU citizens.
