The invitation sent by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, to the so-called «SADR” to attend the forthcoming 5th AU-EU summit has not put an end to speculations associated to this matter.
Three weeks before the opening of the international partnership meeting, ambiguity is still surrounding the participation of the Polisario, to the point that the Front’s «Minister of Foreign Affairs», is not fully convinced that their delegation can make it to Abidjan, on the 29th and the 30th of November. «It makes no sense to block a member of the African Union», said Mohamed Ould Salek yesterday in Algiers during a press briefing.
Indeed, he stepped up to say that «there will be no summit without the SADR» adding that «Morocco is trying, collaborating with France, to put obstacles» in front of the separatist movement.
History repeating itself
For the record, Mohamed Ould Salek had expressed the same position on October the 11th during another press conference he attended in the Algerian capital, criticizing France which had suggested that Abidjan should invite to the AU-EU summit only sovereign States that are recognized by the United Nations.
This simply means that nothing is decided yet and by the opening of the summit surprises could arise, particularly from the European Union or from Côte d'Ivoire. The host country assumes the responsibility of issuing entry visas to its territory to members of delegations participating in the international partnership meeting in Abidjan.
