After meeting with the Angolan President, King Mohammed VI met on Wednesday, 29th of December, in Abidjan the South African president, Jacob Zuma. «During this warm and honest meeting, the two heads of state agreed to work together, hand in hand, and to look forward to a promising future», reports MAP news agency.
«Morocco and South Africa are two important hubs when it comes to political stability and economic development, respectively in the extreme north and south of the continent».
Zuma and the sovereign agreed «to maintain direct contact and promote economic and political partnership to build strong, lasting and stable relations and overcome the state that characterized bilateral relations for decades».
They decided that «the diplomatic representation should be raised by designating ambassadors in Rabat and Pretoria».
Similar to Algiers, Pretoria is one of the main allies of the Polisario. Jacob Zuma never missed an opportunity to show his support for Brahim Ghali and his allies.
Presidential elections in South Africa are scheduled for 2019. The African National Congress, Zuma’s party, can suffer from a similar setback to the one it experienced in August 2013.
