15 Moroccan migrants including two minors rescued near Ceuta

The Spanish Maritime Rescue Services have rescued on the night of Saturday to Sunday, 15 Moroccan migrants, including two minors, who were trying to enter Spain using a makeshift boat, reports EFE.

The Algeciras Maritime Rescue Center contacted Tarifa’s office after receiving a phone call alerting them about a boat located in the Strait of Giblarta’s waters, and which was stuck because of the bad weather conditions, adds the Spanish news agency.

The rescue services managed to contact one of the migrants, who told them that the boat was struggling because the engine broke down. The Spanish authorities then sent a rescue and search patrol, which successfully located the boat at 3:45. The migrants were finally taken to the Spanish enclave, Ceuta.

They said they had left the Moroccan coast near the autonomous city. The rescued were assisted by the Spanish Red Cross, which indicated that their state of health did not require that they be transported to a hospital.
