Bir Lahlou and Tifariti do not fall within the buffer strip, says UN spokesperson

In his daily press briefing held Thursday, 19th of April, Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General Stéphane Dujarric stated that «first, I can say that neither Bir Lahlou nor Tifariti fall within the buffer strip».

«Nevertheless, a MINURSO map clearly shows that teams are installed in both territories which makes them de facto under the responsibility of the mission», a well informed source told Yabiladi.

Stéphane Dujarric has already stated, on April 2, that «with respect to that situation, our colleagues in MINURSO [United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara] have not observed any movement of military elements in the northeast territory». The next day, he said that «the mission has to cover a very large zone. It goes and reports what it sees».
