Al Khales Group, a company operating in the agricultural sector, is entering the Moroccan market by cultivating goji berries. The decision is the first of its kind, as the fruit has never been grown in the Kingdom.

Picked only in China and Tibet, for over 3000 years, today the red berries are cultivated in the region of Kenitra, more precisely in the municipality of Sidi Yahia El Gharb. The latter is the biggest goji berries farm in Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the United States, said the A Khales Group Thursday in a press conference held in Casablanca.

«We decided to sell the berries in Morocco before exporting them to foreign countries, because we wanted the Moroccan consumer to enjoy the product before any other foreign consumer», stated Badreddine Lokmane, marketing and commercial director of Al Khales group to Yabiladi. «It is a high added value project not only for the consumer but also for the farmers», he added.

The company plans to extend its offers, by launching three new brands : (fresh goji) for the fresh berries available starting from this week for 45 dirhams per 125 grams, and other brands that will be soon commercialized : (Marrakesh goji) for the dried gojis, (Bee goji) for the goji honey,  and also juices and jams. These products will be available in several hypermarkets and supermarkets in Casablanca and in Rabat.
