ISIS claimed responsibility, Wednesday, for the deadly Toronto shooting, through its propaganda agency Amaq. According to the latter, the attack was carried by «one of the ISIS fighter» who responded to the «calls to target nationals of the international anti-jihadist coalition».

The mass shooting occurred on Sunday July 22nd at night in a bustling artery of the Greek district of Danforth Avenue and left two people dead including a 10-year-old girl and 13 others wounded.

The assailant, opened fired on busy restaurants and cafes, and then at people who stood on the pavement. He was found dead a short time later after a shootout with police.

The gunman, identified as Faisal Hussain, a 29 year-old resident of the city, who suffered according to his family from lifelong mental health problems including psychosis and depression. He did not, however, have a criminal record, according to the Toronto police.

The Canadian city has seen 212 shootings in 2018, with 26 resulting in a homicide. Toronto police has announced a plan of reinforcement with some 200 additional police officers to combat this upsurge in gun violence.
