The Marrakech criminal police arrested, on Friday, two nationals who were subjected to an international arrest warrant issued by the Spanish judicial authorities for their involvement in international drug trafficking cases.

A statement by the national police (DGSN) said that the suspects, who were illegally residing in Morocco, were arrested on the basis of a warrant from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) for their alleged involvement in a drug trafficking case aboard a helicopter in Spain that resulted in the seizure of 540 kg of Chira in 2012.

They were placed in police custody to complete the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, pending consideration of the procedure for their extradition to Spain, the same source noted.

This operation is part of the strengthening of international security cooperation, notably in the fight against all forms of cross-border crime, the statement concluded.
