Venezuela intends to reconsider its recognition of «SADR»

Venezuela intends to «reconsider its recognition of the SADR under the government of interim President Juan Guaido», said, on Tuesday in Caracas, Manuel Avendano, foreign affairs advisor at the Venezuelan National Assembly (Parliament), the only opposition-controlled body.

«Venezuela will reconsider its recognition of the Saharawi Republic under the government of Guaido», Avendano said in a statement to MAP, noting that the SADR recognition is more related to the Left ideologies, like those of Nicolas Maduro's regime.

«The recognition of SADR is more related to ideological causes of the Left, rather than to a real quest for a peaceful and political solution to the dispute over the Sahara», he said.

The Venezuelan official said the Guaido government's priority is to restore relations with Morocco, given the common denominators and the history shared by the two countries.

This position was expressed by interim President Juan Guaido in a phone conversation with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.

«We want a peaceful solution to this regional dispute (...) We support any process that would lead to this end, within the framework of the UN», said Avendano, reiterating Guaido government's wish to establish «open», «extended» and «solid» relations with the Kingdom.

Guaido expressed his satisfaction with the phone call which touched on a number of issues of common interest, expressing his wish to restore relations between Caracas and Rabat and further them.
