Spanish police arrested, in the city of Santa Coloma de Gramanet (Barcelona province), an alleged jihadist who fled Morocco last September after the dismantling of a terrorist cell he joined in Tangier, EFE said.

The 30-year-old man is a Moroccan national who is the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Morocco for his alleged involvement in crimes related to terrorism and drug trafficking.

He fled the kingdom in September 2018 after the Moroccan authorities arrested members of a terrorist cell dedicated to financing jihadist activities through drug trafficking.

The detainee has a criminal record related to terrorism in Morocco. He joined a group dedicated to facilitating the movement of fighters in the Syrian and Iraqi region. He had already served a prison sentence for trying to reach Syria.
