Morocco : At least 15 bodies found underneath a landslide in Al Haouz

Firefighters removed, Thursday night, 15 bodies buried under a landslide, triggered by the heavy rainfalls in Al Haouz province, near a village called Asni, a 2M.ma reporter said. The victims who were travelling in a small van were trapped under a pile of mud.

According to local online newspaper Kesh24, 12 women and 3 men died in the tragedy, including three children.

The van was heading to a village called Taliouin in the province of Taroudant when the landslide took place. The vehicle has been stuck underneath the mud for more than 24 hours.

On Thursday, the Interior Ministry said in a statement that firefighters and the local authorities were doing everything they could to retrieve the bodies of the passengers stuck inside and then clear the road that has been blocked since Wednesday.

The public prosecutor’s office announced on the same day the opening of an investigation to determine the circumstances of tragedy.
