The United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) has finally reacted to terror threats in the Tindouf camps, mentioned November in an alert published by the Spanish Foreign Ministry.
«Based on the information received from the Spanish and Algerian authorities» about terror and kidnapping threats in Tindouf, MINURSO has decided to «take precautionary measures», the mission told EFE.
MINURSO’s response contradicts the denial of the Algerian Foreign Ministry, who said earlier this month that reports about an alert in question sent to the mission are «unfounded».
The Algerian Ministry’s denial was released after Algerian newspaper TSA claimed that the Algerian government has warned MINURSO members of kidnapping risks in the Tindouf camps, endorsing the recent recommendations of Spain. The latter has advised its nationals against traveling to the camps.
