The Tarajal border crossing, separating Ceuta from Morocco, will be closed to human and road traffic starting from Friday as a measure to avoid the spread of coronavirus, the local government in Ceuta told EFE. The measure was implemented this morning and was also adopted by Morocco.

The local government of Melilla said in a brief statement that the land border crossings with Morocco will also be closed starting Friday. It urged all Melilla residents to return to the autonomous city as soon as possible. Government sources told EFE that «all the crossings will be closed».

Melilla has recorded the first two cases of COVID-19 coronavirus, the Directorate General for Public Health and Consumer Affairs of the Ministry of Economy and Social Policy confirmed on Friday.

On Thursday, Morocco decided, in concert with the Spanish authorities to suspend, until further notice, flights and maritime traffic to and from Spain, in order to deal with this global pandemic.
