As of Saturday, Morocco recorded 160 new confirmed coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 4,729.
«Most of the new cases have been recorded respectively in Marrakech-Safi, Casablanca-Settat, Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fez-Meknes, Guelmin-Oued Noun and Rabat-Salé-Kenitra», said Mohamed Lyoubi, head of the epidemiology and infectious disease control department at the Ministry of Health, during the daily press briefing.
In the past 24 hours, 2,201 suspected cases have tested negative for the virus, bringing the number of cases dismissed to 34,638, the official added.
The latter said that new cases continue to be detected through medical monitoring, noting that 131 cases (82%) were detected between yesterday and today through this process.
In addition, two deaths were recorded between yesterday and today, setting the total number of deaths at 173 victims since the beginning of the pandemic in the country, added Mohamed Lyoubi, explaining that the fatality rate thus reaches 3,7% while that the world average is 7%.
Morocco also recorded, over the same period, 173 total recoveries, bringing the total number to 1,256 and the recovery rate to 26.6%.
«Currently, only 78 patients are in intensive care, which represent only 3%, while 92% of the people currently treated are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms», he said.
