Invited, Thursday, by national TV, Morocco’s head of government Saadeddine El Othmani said that Moroccans stranded abroad because of the coronavirus health crisis can be repatriated «once borders are reopened».

During his appearance, El Othmani confirmed the figures communicated earlier today by the head of consular affairs at the Foreign Ministry Mohamed Basri, adding that more than 27,000 Moroccans are currently awaiting repatriation.

This surprising statement contradicts that made by Mohamed Basri, who said that repatriation of these nationals won’t be possible before May 20.

It is worth mentioning that if Moroccans stranded abroad await the reopening of borders to get to Morocco, the operation is no longer a repatriation one.
