Traveling by sea or air : Answering questions about Morocco’s exceptional operation

From July 15 to August 31, 2020, Morocco has set up special flights and ferries for Moroccans and foreigners wishing to enter or leave the Kingdom. The exceptional operation is not a reopening of borders, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release. On the first day of this special operation, we answer your main questions.

Who are the people who are allowed to access the Moroccan territory?

- All Moroccan citizens living abroad.
- All foreigners who reside in Morocco (residence card holders)
- Diplomats accredited to Morocco and / or those newly assigned, and their family members.

Who are the people who are allowed to leave the Moroccan territory?

- Moroccan nationals residing abroad and their families.
- Foreigners, including those residing in Morocco, and their families.
- Moroccan students enrolled in universities abroad, holders of long-stay visas.

Who are the people who will exceptionally need an authorization to leave the territory?

- Students newly registered abroad (long-stay visa), or those who have not received a residence card yet.
- People who have received family reunion visas.
- People traveling for medical reasons.
- Moroccan nationals with long-stay visas and a residence card.

Who issues said authorizations?

- The authorizations will be issued by the Prefecture or Province.

What are the possible access routes?

- Return is possible by air (exclusively through RAM and Air Arabia).
- Sea (only through the ports of Sète in France and Genoa in Italy).

What are the conditions of access to the national territory?

- Having a valid Moroccan passport or foreign passport, accompanied by a residence card or the Moroccan ID.
- To have a negative PCR test of less than 48 hours, as well as an antibody one.

Can I buy my ticket from other airline companies?

- Only tickets purchased from Royal Air Maroc and Air Arabia are valid.

Are PCR and antibody tests mandatory only for those planning to fly to Morocco?

- Whether by plane or by boat, you must carry out two tests: PCR (48 hours before) and an antibody one.

Will children also have to do the tests?

- Children under 11 will not have to do the tests.

What about those traveling via the ports of Sète (France) and Genoa (Italy), the validity of the tests can expire during the journey?

- In this case an additional PCR test will be carried out on board (mobile screening units).
