Police in El Jadida foiled an irregular migration operation and arrested two individuals for their alleged links to a criminal network active in the organization of irregular migration and human trafficking.
In a statement, the national police (DGSN) said that the two suspects, aged 38 and 39, were arrested red-handed for housing 35 would-be migrants, including a 15-year-old minor, in a house at the Bir Anzarane neighbourhood in El Jadida, in preparation for their attempted irregular migration from the coast of Jorf Lasfar.
Searches conducted as part of this case resulted in the seizure of 12 containers comprising 600 liters of fuel, five mobile phones and two wireless communication devices, in addition to four life jackets, a diving suit, a lifebuoy and a motorcycle with foreign-registered license plates, the statement said.
The two suspects and the would-be migrants were subjected to a judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office with a view to determining all the ins and outs of this case and revealing all the accomplices involved in this criminal network, the DGSN concluded.
