Resolution 2440 did not focus on determining the role played by Algeria in the Western Sahara conflict. The country is still considered by the Security Council as a neighboring stateand not a party in the conflict.
During a meeting held this week at the African Parliament, a Moroccan representative and a person who represented the Polisario clashed. The meeting was temporarily suspended.
On October the 12th, Brahim Ghali invited the Security Council to let MINURSO organize a referendum in Western Sahara. Two days later, Bachir Mustapha Sayed commented on Ghali’s statement, criticizing the MINURSO’s work.
