During the 71st session of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Program, Algeria rejected Morocco’s calls for a population census in the Tindouf camps.
Although Algeria, with the support of France, succeeded in 2014 and 2015 in excluding Morocco from mediation in Mali, every movement from Rabat to Bamako is perceived as «interference». Local media have accused Morocco of orchestrating a campaign against a «supposed» presence of Algerian soldiers in Mali.
Assuring that his country has no problem with Morocco, the Algerian president reiterated his country's position on the Western Sahara issue. He also expressed his country's determination to «impose itself» as a mediator for a solution to the Libyan crisis, but also for the Malian issue.
The leadership of the Polisario could see profound changes. The new Algerian presidency is preparing a successor to Brahim Ghali, who is none other than the current Front representative in Algiers.
In an interview with Russia Today, the Algerian Foreign Minister assured that his country would not offend Morocco, adding that Algiers demands respect and will not change its positions known to Rabat.
