After he managed to be among the two finalists for the Sakharov Prize, Nasser Zefzafi had his speech delivered by his father at the European Parliament during a ceremony held to award the 2018 Sakharov Prize winner.
On Thursday, the European Parliament in Brussels announced that Ukranian filmmaker Oleg Gennadyevich Sentsov was awarded the Sakharov Prize. Hirak figure Nasser Zefzafi was among the three finalists who were nominated to win the award.
While, a source told Yabiladi earlier this week that his candidacy is not featured in the Sakharov Prize’s nominee shortlist, Dutch MEP Kati Piri denounced the information, stating that Hirak figure Nasser Zefzafi is officially nominated to compete for the award.
Dutch MPs in the Netherlands have urged their government to pressure Morocco into releasing Hirak detainees. This initiative might affect diplomatic relations between the two countries.
