Driven by poverty, young Sahrawis from the Tindouf camps, similar to those who joined jihadist groups in the Sahel, are now being recruited by the Wagner militias.
Unlike its recent positions, left-wing party Podemos wants Spain to grant citizenship to Sahrawis born during the Spanish occupation.
Last week, Mauritania’s former Defense Minister Mohamed Ould Ghazouani said that if elected president of the country he would stop granting Mauritanian citizenship to Sahrawis from Tindouf. Ould Ghazouani’s statement was denounced by the Front which sent a delegation to meet officials from Nouakchott.
