Policemen in Tangier on Sunday evening foiled an irregular immigration operation and arrested four people for their alleged links to a criminal network active in the organization of irregular immigration operations and human trafficking.

The four suspects were arrested in the Harrarine district in Tangier, while they were preparing the organization of a maritime irregular immigration operation, National Police (DGSN) said in a statement.

The suspects were arrested while they were transporting, aboard two vehicles, 12 Moroccan would-be irregular immigrants, the statement added.

Initial investigations revealed that these individuals received sums estimated at 260.000 Dirhams from the would-be emigrants, the source pointed out.

The suspects were placed on custody, while investigations are underway under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office.
