The Polisario Front has come up with a surprising decision. The separatist movement announced that in order to resume negotiations, Morocco has to recognize the so-called «Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic». The requirement was announced by its «Minister of Information» Hamada Selma Daf, Algerian news agency APS reported.

The official said that the movement is ready to sign a «new ceasefire agreement, but on the condition that Morocco recognizes Western Sahara as a full sovereign member of the African Union», the same source added.

Hamada Selma Daf took an opposite view to the majority of voices within the Polisario and in Algeria - including President Tebboune - who are calling for the appointment of a new UN personal envoy for the Sahara, affirming that this is a secondary matter. «His presence is not necessary for the resumption of negotiations, as he is a simple mediator» in the settlement process, he said.

For months, however, it is the Polisario, who has been accusing Morocco of obstructing the appointment of a successor to the former UN personal envoy, German Horst Köhler.
