Guerguerate : Mauritania’s Foreign Minister meets Morocco’s envoy in Nouakchott

The Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ismail Ould Cheikh received on Tuesday Morocco’s ambassador Nouakchott, Hamid Chabar. Officially, the talks focused on «the close bilateral relations between the two countries and all issues of common interest», Mauritanian news agency AMI reported

This new meeting between the two diplomats comes just four days after the Polisario said it launched an overnight attack on the Guerguerat area on the border between Morocco and Mauritania, on January 23.

Meetings between Chabar and Ould Cheikh are frequent. The Moroccan ambassador met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs on October 26, five days after the blockade of Guerguerate. They also held talks on December 4, a few weeks after the Royal Armed Forces operation that secured the flow of peoples and goods at the border crossing.
