Mauritania has banned a meeting of Polisario supporters, scheduled for Saturday February 27 in the town of Bir Oumgrin, located in the north of the country. The representative of the Front had submitted a request to the authorities of the province to hold the meeting to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the proclamation of the «Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic», Sahara media based in Nouakchott reported.

The same source indicates that the section of the Front in Bir Oumgrin has mobilized its sympathizers to show their support for the Polisario leadership.

Several weeks ago, Mauritania refused to authorize a demonstration of Sahrawis originating from the Tindouf camps residing in the city of Zouirat, in support of the movement of Brahim Ghali after the Moroccan military intervention in Guerguerate in November 2020.
