The Spanish National Police announced today, Wednesday, a successful drug bust in collaboration with the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance in Morocco. The joint operation resulted in the interception of a rubber boat carrying over 1,500 kilograms of cocaine near the coast of Gran Canaria and the arrest of its three crew members.
«This operation», the police stated in a release, «was the culmination of close surveillance and intelligence sharing between the National Police and Civil Guard, with crucial information provided by the Moroccan authorities».
Following the interception on January 12th, officers boarded the vessel and seized 1,564.5 kilograms of cocaine packaged in 64 bundles. The three individuals arrested and the confiscated drugs were then transported to the port of La Luz in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for further processing. The cocaine was meticulously weighed and documented before being transferred to the Civil Guard Command for secure storage.
This operation underscores the ongoing collaborative efforts between Spanish and Moroccan authorities to combat drug trafficking. As the police statement concludes, «This action falls within the framework of ongoing security cooperation between the National Police, the Civil Guard, and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance in Morocco, aimed at proactively monitoring and disrupting drug smuggling routes».
