The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has chosen Morocco to chair the Steering Committee of the Global Nuclear Safety and Security Network (GNSSN) for the next three years, starting in 2024. The Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR) announced the appointment on Friday.

The IAEA lauded Morocco's «valuable contributions» and expressed confidence that Saïd Mouline, Director-General of AMSSNuR, will play a vital role in strengthening global nuclear safety and security.

The GNSSN facilitates knowledge and service exchange among its members, promoting enhanced nuclear safety and security worldwide.

As a knowledge network, the GNSSN complements the IAEA's comprehensive capacity-building approach. It actively fosters international cooperation and dialogue on nuclear safety and security, also aiming to harmonize national approaches to managing nuclear safety knowledge.

Key GNSSN members include information providers and operators of regional networks across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Latin America.
