The US State Department and the Moroccan Embassy in Washington co-hosted a briefing on the latest developments in the Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation. Ambassadors and representatives from the 39 member countries attended the meeting at the Moroccan embassy.
During the briefing, Ambassador Youssef Amrani highlighted Morocco's commitment to promoting a stable, prosperous, and inclusive Atlantic region, capable of driving socio-economic transformation. He emphasized the royal initiative positioning the Atlantic as central to King Mohammed VI's vision for Africa, driven by principles of solidarity, cooperation, and co-development.
Amrani outlined specific projects within the initiative, including efforts to create an economic corridor linking Atlantic Africa to the northern and western hemispheres, and initiatives aiding Sahelian access to the maritime space.
He stressed the importance of complementarity between various Atlantic development initiatives and Morocco's active participation in the Partnership, co-chairing a working group on marine space planning alongside Spain and Angola.
Ambassador Amrani concluded by reiterating Morocco's view of the Atlantic as a key geostrategic zone for peace and sustainable development, urging joint efforts to establish it as a dynamic force on the international stage.
US Coordinator for Atlantic Cooperation Jessica Lapenn expressed gratitude for Morocco's leadership and commitment to promoting the region. Welcoming the first in-person briefing for Washington-based diplomats, Lapenn emphasized shared values conducive to a common Atlantic identity.
She encouraged member countries to collaborate closely on addressing shared challenges and seizing opportunities for integrated development, ensuring the sustainable future of Atlantic resources for generations to come.
