On Monday, police in Marrakech arrested an individual suspected of breaching automated digital data processing systems and hacking telephone calls.

According to police, the 27-year-old suspect used an electronic device and a computer application to divert international telephone calls to the local network and generate revenue through rate differentiation.

Searches and investigations carried out based on a complaint lodged by a national telecommunications operator led to the identification and apprehension of the suspect in the city of Marrakech.

Searches conducted in connection with this case led to the seizure of a SIM card and the cell phone presumably used to commit the crimes.

The suspect, police added, was placed in police custody for investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, with a view to clarifying all the circumstances of this case and arresting any potential accomplices.
