Tourist arrivals in Morocco surged to more than 5.9 million by the end of May 2024, registering a 15% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy.

«In the first five months of 2024, Morocco welcomed over 5.9 million visitors, 772,000 more arrivals than in the same period in 2023, reflecting a significant 15% growth», the ministry stated in a press release.

The positive trend continued in May 2024, with over 1.3 million tourist arrivals recorded, showcasing a double-digit increase of 18% compared to May 2023.

«772,000 additional tourists in 5 months is an exceptional achievement for our sector», said Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, quoted in the press release. «We are proud of the progress made over the past 30 months in collaboration with industry professionals and our partners».

Foreign tourists played a key role in this development, with a 17% increase over the period and accounting for 56% of total arrivals. Moroccans living abroad also contributed to this growth, with an increase of 13%, noted the Ministry.
