Nabila Mounib, MP for the opposition Unified Socialist Party (PSU), has dismissed the US recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara as a mere «gimmick». In an interview with Russia's state-run Sputnik news agency, she argued that the decision, announced on December 10, 2020, by former President Donald Trump, was simply a way to «exert pressure on Morocco for certain gains».
The former secretary general of the PSU added that «the normalization (of diplomatic ties with Israel) in exchange for recognition of the Moroccan autonomy plan reveals an imbalance in relations and highlights the international arrogance in imposing its agenda and policies. However, geography and law affirm that the Sahara is Moroccan».
Mounib also asserted that the establishment of diplomatic relations between Arab countries, including Morocco, and Israel is intended to «annihilate the Palestinian cause».
Weekly popular demonstrations in Morocco protest against normalization with Israel and denounce the massacres committed by the Israeli army against Palestinians.
