Moroccan international Sofiane Boufal has joined Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise (USG) on a two-year deal from Qatari club Al-Rayyan, USG announced on Tuesday. «Boufal is now a Unionist until 2026», the Brussels-based pro league club wrote on its website.
The player, who made his international debut for Morocco in 2016, «played seven matches at the 2022 World Cup during the Moroccan national team's impressive run in Qatar, where Morocco advanced to the semi-finals», the club pointed out. The left winger also represented Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019, 2022, and 2024.

Boufal, 30, arrives in Brussels after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with Al-Rayyan. The Atlas Lion trained at Angers, where he made his professional debut in September 2014. A few months later, he signed with Lille before moving to Premier League side Southampton in the summer of 2016.
After a loan spell at Celta Vigo during the 2018-2019 season, Boufal (46 caps) returned to Angers in 2020 before joining Al-Rayyan in September 2023.
