Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch met with Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang on Thursday during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing. Akhannouch, representing King Mohammed VI, was accompanied by several key officials, including Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad; Mohcine Jazouli, Minister Delegate for Investment and Public Policy Evaluation; Mohamed Methqal, Ambassador and Director General of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI); Abdelkader El Ansari, Moroccan Ambassador to Beijing; and Chakib Alj, President of the Confédération générale des entreprises du Maroc (CGEM).

The discussion highlighted the strong ties between Morocco and China across political, economic, social, cultural, and educational domains, in line with the directives of King Mohammed VI and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Both leaders praised their mutual support on critical issues in regional and international forums.

Akhannouch emphasized that the royal visit to China in May 2016 had significantly enhanced bilateral relations, following the establishment of a strategic partnership. He expressed a desire to further consolidate and expand this dynamic relationship.

The Moroccan Prime Minister also reiterated Morocco's commitment to deepening strategic cooperation with China, particularly through a triangular partnership with Africa. He referenced several key initiatives, including efforts to facilitate Sahelian countries' access to the Atlantic Ocean, the Atlantic African States Process (AASP) aimed at promoting peace and stability in the Atlantic African region, and the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project designed to foster energy cooperation and stimulate regional economic growth.

Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, accompanied by senior Chinese officials, emphasized the «unique» nature of the bilateral relationship, especially since King Mohammed VI's 2016 visit.

He affirmed China's readiness to enhance cooperation with Morocco in areas such as infrastructure, trade, investment, culture, education, and tourism, and highlighted the promising prospects for the bilateral partnership.

The meeting concluded with a luncheon hosted by the Chinese Vice Premier and the Moroccan Prime Minister, offered by the Chairman of the Chinese State Council in honor of the Moroccan delegation at the FOCAC Summit.

The FOCAC Summit commenced on Thursday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, featuring participation from Chinese President Xi Jinping and various African heads of state and government, including Morocco.
